Approximately a year ago I started learning to play guitar.

I started off by buying a PRS SE245 electric guitar which I still use as my primary guitar.

Later I bought a PRS Acoustic guitar. I liked the look of it but after some time I decided I really don’t like the sound of it so it is now packed away in the garage.

Then I got an Ibanez Artstar AM153QA Semi-Hollow guitar. I really enjoy this one and still play it in rotation.

I still wanted a good acoustic guitar so finally sprung for this beauty, Breedlove Oregon Concert Cinnamon Burst CE Myrtlewood. It was made right here in Oregon, in Bend.

I also wanted a small travel guitar that I could take camping and other places with me as well as to just sit in the living room or anywhere and play. I love that Breedlove so much so picked up their travel guitar, the Breedlove Pursuit Exotic Companion Prairie Burst CE Myrtlewood.

I have always wanted to and finally took the plunge. Of course this also stirred my curiosity as to how guitars work. So I started buying guitar kits and building them. The following are the final results of the kits I have built so far.

As time progressed I wanted to do more so I bought a custom body (built to my specs) and neck. I finished them and bought all high end hardware and electronics for it. I plan to keep this guitar as I love it.

My next steps are to build a guitar completely from scratch. I’ve joined the Guild of Oregon Woodworkers and taken all the classes to get my shop card which gives me full access to all the woodworking machines in the shop. I’ve also bought some nice Mahogany and Maple boards that I can use to make my first guitar. Unfortunately this aspect has been temporarily put on hold as the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 hit giving many people COVID-19 and causing the complete shutdown of most of the world. As soon as the guild workshop opens again I will begin building the guitar.

In the mean time, I have started working on building a pickup winder to create my own guitar pickups. You can see details of this on the Maker page.
