The Middle East

Day 2 – 10/08/2022

Today we crossed the middle eastern part of the US. We woke up in Columbia Missouri and had some wonderful breakfast provided by the hotel for free. Then we got ready and headed out to continue our adventure across the US. Today we drove the rest of the way through Missouri and then through Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee and finally into Georgia. The day started out slow but as it went on we encountered more and more beautiful trees in the midst of their fall colors. It was such fantastic eye candy that it really made the drive enjoyable.

When we got to St. Louis, our plan was to cross Eads Bridge and park across the river to get some pictures of the arch. Unfortunately we could not find a way to do that. By the time we realized that we couldn’t we would have had to go back in order to get pictures of the arch. Therefore we got no pictures of it. But Eads Bridge was amazing.

As we went through the middle eastern states we encountered several very long and painful backups that extended our drive by at least an hour or two. So todays drive took much longer than anticipated. Our destination was Atlanta Georgia so we needed to cover a lot of ground. The one thing we noticed is that people in this part of the country are the most crazy drivers. They nearly all would ride our tail so close that it’s very scary and quite dangerous. There was one guy that was literally 2 feet or less off our rear bumper at 75 mph. It was extremely disturbing. I’ve never encountered this type of behavior while driving.

We finally arrived at our hotel in Atlanta. It was the Westin on Peachtree street. It is a 72 story building and we were on the 66th floor. We got a suite that included 2 rooms, a bedroom and a living area room. It was the most amazing stay we have ever encountered. We could see the entire city from our room. When we pulled into the garage we were greeted by the valet service. They unloaded all our suitcases and bags onto a cart and took it inside for us. Then they took our car and parked it. When we got into our room they delivered our lugged right to the room and unloaded it in the room for us. It was such fantastic service. The young man who delivered our luggage was named John Smith. He was the nicest guy! Since we had been stuck in the car all day we just wanted to chat with someone and he was more than willing to oblige. Super nice guy! We hope the best for him. We finally ordered dinner through room service. It was very tasty. Then we just relaxed in the room and went to sleep, against our wishes, to the most beautiful view.
